The first season of this series will be released this week July 19 on DVD/Blu-ray. I really enjoyed it and glad it was renewed for a second season!

The Magicians (2016- ) TV Series

The Magicians is a fantasy television series that premiered on Syfy and Showcase on December 16, 2015, as a special preview. The rest of the series premiered on January 25, 2016. It is based on the novel of the same name by Lev Grossman. Michael London, Janice Williams, John McNamara, and Sera Gamble serve as executive producers. A 13-episode series order was placed in May 2015. On February 8, 2016, the series was renewed for a second season consisting of 13 episodes which is set to air in 2017.

Series synopsis ~

A bunch of college kids converge on New York City after being recruited to a secret school for magic. What they soon find out is that the magic is all too real and if not with the well-intentioned can wreak as much havoc as you can imagine. Quentin Coldwater is an intelligent but introverted young man with an interest in magic, and the action centers around his character. Who can he trust and who will use their education in the macabre for their own gain?

This is very much a straight Harry Potter knock off for grown-ups, it has many moments of silliness, yet it manages to be entertaining to a degree and it does get a little better as it goes along thank goodness as it was quite slow in the beginning, for me anyway lol.

I asked my wife is she was interested in it & she said she'd seen a couple of episodes & wasn't impressed. I'm going to make her sit through some more. I liked the Harry Potter stuff, though it's not my normal type of stuff. This looked like it might have promise.
