This movie is coming out next week on June 7 on DVD/Blu-ray. I really want to see this!

Colonia (The Colony) (2016)

In 1973, a young couple become entangled in a Chilean military coup at a time when there is much protest on the streets against General Augusto Pinochet. When Daniel is abducted by Pinochet's secret police DINA, Lena tries to find and save her boyfriend. She tracks him to a sealed-off organization called "Colonia Dignidad", which presents itself as a charitable mission run by a lay preacher, Paul Schäfer. Lena joins the organization to rescue her boyfriend, only to learn it is a cult from which no one has ever escaped. She later finds Daniel, who acts disabled. Daniel discovers the organization is also an illegal operations center for DINA. Both Lena and Daniel escape to German embassy. Staff from the embassy betray them but the lovers exit the country via a plane with incriminating photographic evidence against Colonia Dignidad.

My wife & I watched this last night. If you're looking for an uplifting film, this ain't it. If you looking for a romantic drama, this might qualify, but not in the typical sense. It's supposed to be a dramatization of real events. Since I wasn't very attentive to the details of what transpired in real time, I can't give you any reassurances that the film is accurate. It did have some pretty unbelievable turns, at least in my mind & the answers were a bit pat. At least 10 times during the film, I was tempted to just turn it off, but decided to stay with it to see where it went. It essentially went nowhere. There were no humanitarian victories, no world changing outcomes. To explain further would require spoilers, so I'll leave it here. I can't recommend it, but I can't recommend against it. It was essentially a neutral event for us, with nothing much to make it memorable.

Good feedback Fog, thanks! I probably will see it just the same because I like movies about cults and truly like the fact that Michael Nyqvist is part of the cast. It's about a religious cult right? Because with your feedback, if it's not, I will not bother.

Yes, it's mostly about a cult in Peru, founded & run by an expatriate German.
