Legals on labels

Postby GRINCH » Wed Aug 05, 2009 7:26 pm

Since I've been using PS I do my label legals with the arc or warped text.

Now, when the legals are too long I have to make them shorter and basically make up my own.

Is there another tool to do the legals with that you guys use?

as far as i was aware, you use a custom path to put the text around the outside, but i may be wrong

No the arc or text warped goes around the disk to a limit. After that it doesn't fit.

Example: I use the text and write the legals then I use the arc to make it go around the disk

Why don't you edit a template which is already set up? The legals can't be that different?

Grinch,

First you want to create a path. Hit "U" on the Keyboard. At the top of the screen select the second icon from the left if you hover the mouse over it it says paths. Then choose the ellipse tool it is the 8th from the left. Then hit the arrow next to the little star icon. a little box pops up that says ellipse options. hit the radio button next to fixed size and then enter 1500px in to both boxes. Make sure you hit the tab key after each entry.

Now click somewhere in you file. A circle will show up. Go to the View Menu and make sure there is a Check mark next to Snap. Look in Snap to and make sure you have Guides, Layers, and Document Bounds Checked. Hit Ctrl + T. Now click inside the circle and move it until it snaps to the left and top. Now at the top of the screen you will see a Chain Icon between the height and width fields. Make sure you click it. Then select the text in Height and use the down arrow key on the keyboard to adjust the size of the circle. Get it close to where you want the text to be but it can always be adjusted later. When you have it where you want it click the Check box at the top.

Press "T" on the Keyboard. Hover your mouse over the circle until you see a what looks like a capital i with a slash through it. Click the left mouse button. At the top choose Center Justified. Enter the text you want displayed. Don't worry if the text is not positioned correct or is upside down. I will tell you how to fix that in a moment. Once you have the text all typed in press the Check icon at the top.

Now Press "A" on the Keyboard. Hover over the cursor over the text. The cursor will change to look like a capital i with an arrow pointed left and an arrow pointed right. Click and hold the left mouse button and drag so that your cursor is in side the circle. You will see the text bounce from the outside of the circle to the inside. While continuing to hold the mouse button you can move left or right and you will see the text move along the circle When you have it previsioned where you want it let go of the mouse button.

That's it. If you need more detail on any step let me know.

It doesn't let me, just tried that.

Dirk even helped me to make one from scratch and that didn't work.

I think it has something to do with the version I am running cause I cant even do justified text.

Adobe PhotoShop ver7

I will see if I can find another version that has these functions working and is up to date.
