Pip's absence

Postby Pip » Sun May 28, 2023 1:43 pm

Ok. There's no easy way to explain this.

My sister contacted me about midday today asking for my younger brothers's phone number as she needed to speak to both of us about our older brother who has been having chemo for cancer and was having trouble or problems with it.

The next message I got was that I might want to make travel arrangements which to me conveys bad news as she is currently at the hospital with my older brother and has just seen the consultant.

Although I'm awaiting further information and preparing to travel I hope you understand that my participation here will be taking a back seat. My obligation first and foremostt is to family.

For you, the users the only thing you could see is a delay in approving new additions and acceptance of new users due to different time zones.

Re: Pip's absence

OK I arrived at my sisters Monday evening and she brought me up to speed. Although he had been havingb occasional dizzy spells he was quite concious and walking about until Friday evening when he had a bad fall and was admitted to hospital that evening. He was still speaking until Sunday. Since then he was unable to speak but was still communicating with a shake or nod of the head. which was the case on Tuesday when I visited him.

Overnight though he has taken a turn for the worse and is no longer communative and is now on end of life care. Basically making sure he is free of pain and is comfortable. It is just a matter of days now.

My sister is staying at the hospital 24/7 now and I will continue to visit daily.

Forgot to add although his lung cancer had responded to the chemo the cancer has spread to his liver and brain. He has several brain tumours including one in his brain stem.

Condolences Pip. I know it's not easy losing a sibling, I lost my brother four years ago. It was the main reason I started doing covers to take my mind off things. There's a hole in you that can never be filled, and the best thing to do to honor them is to keep living your life to the fullest and know that they may be gone, but the memories of them stay strong. I'm sending you positive vibes, my friend.

No worries Pip! It's just as you stated Family is first. Try to take it easy and stay positive. I just had surgery for the C word last November.

Thank you everyone for your condolences, it is appreciated. To be honest my head is in pieces ATM having seen what is ahead. It is going to take weeks to just sort out his house as he kept everything (it can come in handy) before we can make headway. It is a mammoth task ahead before we can get his will ( when and if we find it) to be submitted to probate. I honestly cannot say how long it will be before I can give this site the full attention it needs. I will drop in when I can. Currently the Admins and Mod are covering for me, so the site will continue and I will be back 100% eventually.

Stay strong Pip. Did your brother also lived in the UK or you had to travel far?

Thanks Pam. Its taking time clearing out purely due to the distance between myself and where he lived and the amount of time I can spend there. Doing it at weekends.

My brother was a packrat! He kept anything that would "come in handy".

So far we've cleared a 20ft storage filled top to bottom, front to back. A large garage filled the same and one room of his house.

It'll soon be over.
